Indra's Net Bio

Indra’s Net is the musical collaboration of Dr. Andrew Colyer and Daniel Aggers.

Daniel came up with the name of the project/band/group (we’re still not quite sure what we are). The Hindu myth of Indra’s Net (Indra is the Hindu God of Space): “In Indra’s palace in heaven, there is a net that stretches and extends infinitely in all directions. At every intersection of the net, there is a jewel so highly polished and perfect that it reflects every other jewel in the net. As each perfectly clear gem reflects every other one, so are you affected by every other system in the universe.”

In other words, Everything Is Connected To Everything.

“Indra’s Jewelled Net is a metaphor for the summation of Buddhist thought. Each of us is a jewel in Indra’s Net, which replicates the whole and is the whole. At each intersection in Indra’s Net is a light reflecting jewel and each jewel contains another Net, ad infinitum. The jewel at each intersection exists only as a reflection of all the others and hence it has no self-nature. Yet it also exists as a separate entity to sustain the others. Each and all exist in their mutuality.”
–Ken Jones, The Social Face of Buddhism

Our intention is to be the “Steely Dan” of Progressive Rock music = with the two of us being the core of the project, bringing in other world-class musicians to participate in the creation of positive, uplifting music = that makes people feel good when they listen to it.

Because of our strong classical music background and the unique sound of our music, it’s not really Rock; we’re not sure what to call it, so we are inventing our own new phrase name, “Progressive Classical”.

We want our music to be an aural experience for the listener, in the same way that YES, early Genesis, Pink Floyd, the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s, and classical music transports one on a musical journey.

(By the way, our music is researched to be beneficial for your physiology and state of Consciousness.)

About Andrew and Daniel:

Dr. Andrew Colyer created and named the new genre of Consciousness Music in 2005.

As a musician, composer, and producer, Dr. Colyer’s classical training in piano, voice, and trumpet began with piano at three years of age. His teaching lineage reaches back five generations to Beethoven. He has performed three times at Carnegie Hall with a chorus and symphony, and internationally throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan in a variety of big band, jazz, blues, pop, and rock settings. Additional experience includes the Juilliard School, soundtrack production for one of the top artists in Japan, independent film scoring, and hosting his own radio show.

His broad exposure to numerous spiritual practices began at 10 years of age when he began performing (piano, voice, trumpet) in many different kinds of churches and places of worship. Dr. Colyer is a Taoist Initiate, has worked with shamanic traditions, and is an avid student of Dr. David Hawkins and Devotional Nonduality.

Dr. Colyer founded ConsciousWorldMusic.com (currently pre-launch), which will bring uplifting and inspiring music to thousands of grateful music lovers around the world each month.

Dr. Colyer also created and named the new phrase “Music Mystic” in 2006, and his intention is to educate and produce music that uplifts and benefits mankind.

Daniel Aggers grew up listening to classical music as a young child. His parents used to play classical and latin records, and he would pace for hours with headphones on = “I couldn’t sit still . . . music was very visceral for me . . . music really moved me to the point of tears.”

As a guitarist-musician-composer, Daniel’s roots in blues and rock began at age 14. After playing guitar in several rock and blues bands from 1970-1973, Daniel’s life was transformed in 1973 when he went to a concert and saw the progressive rock band YES. After that one night’s experience, he went home and gave away all of his rock and blues records, started taking classical guitar lessons, and focused on progressive rock as a form of musical expression. After he saw Steve Howe live, his life was about classically-focused progressive rock music = specifically, everything that was coming out of England. “There weren’t any American bands that I liked”, says Daniel.

Besides listening to YES, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Gentle Giant, etc., Daniel also got into “experimental” music. Non-traditional jazz, such as Alan Holdsworth, became a source of study. “I liked anything as long as it was different . . . I was very anti-pop.”

Following this period of musical transformation, Daniel played in the highly successful Northeastern progressive rock band Chrysalis from 1974-1978. He also composed classical guitar music and performed live with Daryl Wonderly.

Besides his musical passions, Daniel is also like a “Professor McGiver”, a mysterious conglomeration of seemingly unrelated activities. He grew up working on airplanes with his father, which has translated into working on engines for his entire life. With his father being a pilot, Daniel also eventually became a pilot, serving as a weapons officer in the 1991 Gulf War. As an environmentalist, Daniel has conducted PCB and waste fuel testing, and OSHA compliance air testing. Daniel completed one year of chiropractic school, but stopped when his father passed away; he then taught anatomy at the college level, for 8 years. Other amazing activities include: Chinese martial arts Pai Lum Kung Fu, and Taoist Initiate; surfing at exotic locations around the world (besides Long Island), and over 30 years of motorcycle racing.
